Community Solar
Community solar is a shared renewable energy program that allows multiple households or businesses to benefit from a single solar project without installing panels on their own properties. Participants subscribe to a portion of the project's energy output, reducing their electricity costs while supporting clean energy. These programs make solar power more accessible and affordable, especially for renters and those with unsuitable rooftops.
Community solar allows all members of your community, such as residents, businesses, or institutions, to subscribe to or purchase a portion of the electricity generated by a solar energy system.
Since not everyone can install solar panels on their own property, community solar projects provide an alternative. It enables those who cannot install solar panels on their own property to still benefit from solar energy by installing at an offsite location.

Benefits of Community Solar
Community solar programs provide affordable and accessible clean energy to people who may not be able to install solar panels on their own homes. By allowing multiple participants to share the benefits of a larger solar array, these programs lower electricity costs, promote sustainability, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. They also support local economies by creating jobs in the renewable energy sector and encourage community involvement in environmental initiatives. Plus, renters and homeowners alike can participate, making solar energy more inclusive than ever. Overall, community solar helps bridge the gap between clean energy goals and practical implementation, benefiting both individuals and the planet.

Where can I learn more?
On Nov. 15, 2021, President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (PL 117-58) into law, which established the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).
All households with a child who was approved to receive free or reduced price meals under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or the School Breakfast Program (SBP) within the last 12 months, including children who attend schools participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), are eligible for ACP benefits. Households are also independently eligible if (1) their income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level ($55,500 for a family of four); or (2) a member of the household participates in certain other federal benefit programs—including, among others, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Medicaid, and Federal Public Housing Assistance.
To lower the cost of the internet further, the Biden-Harris Administration has secured commitment from internet service providers across the country to offer high-speed plans that are fully covered by the ACP. As a result, millions of working families can now get high-speed internet without paying a dime.
